The structural mistake is simple: people write the conclusion at the top. The hook should create tension, not summarize the point. That's why 80% of B2B leader posts vanish in the algorithm, the feed rewards attention, not completeness. And attention isn't earned by giving everything away in the first two lines.
The template that works:
1. Hook (1 line), a contrarian claim or provocative observation.
2. Context (2–3 lines), why you're saying it, where you saw it.
3. Insight (3–5 lines), a concrete method or story.
4. CTA (1 line), a question, not a sell.
Avoid five things
Emoji bullet lists with no substance (the algorithm has disliked them since 2024). Motivational fluff ("never give up"). "Available in DMs" sign-offs (readers scroll past, not into DMs). Bragging without a story. And the worst: copy-paste threads from X, LinkedIn rewards a different rhythm: shorter sentences, more whitespace, fewer hashtags.
When and how often
For small companies, 2–3 times a week is realistic. More and quality dies; less and the algorithm forgets you. Best times: Tuesday–Thursday, 7:30–9:00 or 16:00–17:30 local time. Don't post after 10pm, early engagement weights heavily and no one reacts late at night. Consistency beats timing.
Where ideas come from
Three reliable sources: real situations from the week (client conversations, your own mistakes, market observations), recurring questions you get asked, and contrarian takes on things everyone repeats. No client of ours lacks topics, they lack a system to capture them. Keep a one-line-a-day doc. On Sunday, pick three. Publish Monday morning.
What to measure
Reach, engagement rate (comments + reactions / impressions), and quality of DM conversations (how many lead to a call). Never count followers, a follower without a conversation sells nothing. Measure monthly, not weekly; LinkedIn signals are noisy at the week scale.
Avoid: emoji bullet lists with no substance, motivational fluff, "available in DMs". LinkedIn rewards conversation and dwell time.
